We are happy to announce the successful completion of the first half of the two-year
‘SKINBALL’ Project. This international collaboration is developing a
portable device to detect skin-tumours, by means of millimeter-wave photonic spectroscopy.
In this project, MINTRES is responsible for the integration of a
photonic InP chip (a photodiode array) on to a CVD-diamond carrier, located with an antenna-array in the device package. The aim is to optimise heat-dissipation from the hottest parts of the device.
Many thanks to Prof. Dr.-Ing.
Andreas Stöhr and
Microwave Photonics GmbH for coordinating the project and leading the consortium of which we are a part, together with the
University Duisburg-Essen, Department ZHO/Optoelectronics (DE), and the medical doctors from the
University Hospital Essen (DE).
